Instructions for entering JOURNAL data

There are two sections of instructions on this page. Section I contains criteria for inclusion into CERD. Section II contains criteria for specific information to include for each reference.

Section I

Articles to INCLUDE

Information content: must have some relationship, directly or indirectly, on creation/evolution subjects. If the connection is not obvious, include a note.

Primary articles: standard length articles for the journal or magazine.

Articles to EXCLUDE

Letters to the editor: not accepted except in unusual circumstances.
News items: generally not accepted.
Children's features in magazines: not accepted, usually little information
Editorials: sometimes included - ask.
Internal Business: not included. Many related publications contain organizational activity. These types of information are not included.

AUTHORS

Use the following format:
  Doe, John;Smith, William J.;Martin, S.M.

Author Order: Same as appears in journal.
Name format: Last name first, first name and middle name, then Jr. or Sr. Do not abbreviate first and middle names if they are included in the author list in the paper, do not add first and middle names if you happen to know them but they are not included in the text.

Note: all authors must be entered on a single line with a semi-colon ";" to seperate authors.

Publication Date

Use the following format:
  1997

Do not include day or month. If you feel it might be important, include the information in the notes.

Title

Use the following format:
  Seismic studies in the southwest: Case studies

Do not cap. all words in the title. Only the first word, the first word after colons, and proper names should have caps. No puncuation at the end should be included unless it appears in the title, such as a "?"

Journal Title

Use the following format:
  ICR Impact Series

Cap all words in standard formats. Please use names as they appear in the database.

Volume

Use the following format:
  17

No periods.

Issue

Use the following format:
  2

Issue numbers are NOT required IF the journal is sequentially numbered between issues. In other words, if the last page of issue 1 is 188 and the first page of issue 2 is 189, issue numbers are not need. If the page numbers start a 1 for each issue, issue numbers are required.

Pages

Use the following format:
  111-123

Both start page and end page must be included.

Keywords

Use the following format:
  radiometric dating\geochronology\basalt\Arizona

Include at least 3-5 keywords in one line divided by a backslash "\" with no spaces. Each keyword should represent an aspect of the cited article. Also include possible similar terms for particular ideas, like radiometric dating and geochronology in the example above.
